In January 2024, friend and coach Sharon Jarvis asked me to come along to Applewood Stud in donnybrook WA to capture some promotional images of herself and visitor, Stella Barton who was here for coaching from Victoria, to use for their 2024 Paris Paralympic campaigns.

Sharon Jarvis’s journey in the world of para-equestrian sports is nothing short of inspiring. A distinguished Paralympian, competing at Beijing, Rio & Tokyo Paralympics, Sharon has not only achieved remarkable success in her own career but has also dedicated herself to mentoring and coaching the next generation of riders. Her passion for equestrian sports and her deep understanding of the challenges faced by athletes with disabilities have made her an invaluable mentor. Sharon’s commitment to her students goes beyond mere coaching; she instills in them a sense of determination and resilience that is crucial for overcoming the obstacles they face.

Meeting Stella

Meeting Stella Barton is an amazing experience for anyone lucky enough to cross her path, but what made it even more special was meeting mum, Sarah and Coach Sally Francis - you can see the strength within this small but mighty team!

Born with cerebral palsy, Stella’s journey into para-equestrian sports began at the age of seven, thanks to her mother Sarah’s belief that horse riding could offer therapeutic benefits. From the early days at the police stables in South Melbourne with the Riding for the Disabled Association, Stella has shown incredible determination. Her infectious smile and unyielding spirit have made her a beacon of hope and inspiration in the para-equestrian community.

The story of Stella Barton and Lord Lamarque, affectionately known as Bug, is a testament to the magic that can happen when the right horse meets the right rider. Sharon, an Australian Paralympian, had been training a beautiful Hanoverian stallion named Lord Lamarque, owned by Jade & Alan Moody. Sharon knew that he would be too laid-back for her Olympic selection at Grade IV level, but when she saw Stella ride, she knew they were a perfect match. The connection was immediate and profound.

With Bug’s fabulous walk, positive attitude, and lovely outlook, he proved to be the perfect partner for Stella.

Together, they have achieved extraordinary milestones, including qualifying for the 2024 Paris Paralympics with outstanding scores.

As Stella Barton and Lord Lamarque prepare to hit the world stage - This incredible duo has the support and admiration of fans from all over Australia, including me!

We wish them the very best and look forward to cheering them on during their time on the world stage!

Provisional riding times have been released - Stella is riding 6th in the Grade 1’s at 2.30pm Paris time (8:30 pm WA time) on Tuesday 3rd September, don't miss it!
